Where in Los Angeles are we? Here we are meandering around early on a weekend day. It’s kind of blustery and it’s quiet. We wander around with our hot java looking for a place to settle and sip. We look up and become aware of our surroundings.
Well, look at that mesmerizing building over there. The Bonaventure hotel. Those shiny cylinders peer out toward downtown in all directions. How many times have we seen those gleaming towers on the silver screen? Wow, we can’t remember them all.
Now we notice the contrast of the red girders crossed in front of us against the silver reflections. We Angelenos love public art, whether it’s large bold murals or abstract sculptures. This piece is by Marco Polo “Mark” DiSuvero, called “Shoshone”.
We sip our coffee and admire the art and the view just as the artist intended. So where in Los Angeles are we?
While you’re at it, did you get the last posting on our quiz? The tower and ramp are the edifice over the new Grant Arts High School auditorium. Where exactly are we in order for us to be looking up at that looming structure?
Well, unfortunately for us we were stuck in the northbound traffic on the U.S.101, aka Hollywood Freeway, just south of the Grand Avenue overpass. (What did you expect? This is L.A.)
